A Meme to End a Long Day Posted 2007.09.19 by Angel with 4 comments
I’ve had a long, frustrating day at work today; all foreigners working in developing countries know about these days when very little gets accomplished and you find yourself wondering if there’s a point to being here at all. I’m just finishing my work now, at 9:00 pm and need to unwind a bit before I go to bed. So, instead of complaining, I thought it would be fun to follow my best friend’s lead an answer a meme, which is something I never do, I usually hate them. This one though, is about remembering the past a bit and talking about things I like which will help remind me that my life is not my work. A little harder to do at times since we would never have come to Honduras if it weren’t for my professional ambitions.
Ok, here goes…
What were you doing 10 years ago (five things)?
1. Falling head-over-heels-wildly in love with Matthew.
2. Discovering one of my all time favourite poets, Gregory Scofield
3. Wondering what to do with my life.
4. Beginning my life long affair with Joni Mitchell’s music.
5. Spending a lot of time outside in my childhood neighbourhood awestruck by moon filled Autumn nights.
What were you doing one year ago (five things)?
1. Falling in love with Honduras.
2. Strengthening newly made friendships.
3. Daring to eat quesillo and accept it as “cheese” (we eat it all the time now)
4. Falling head-over-heels-wildly in love with Matthew again and this time en Castellano.
5. Slowly recovering from dengue fever.
Five snacks I enjoy:
1. Seasonal fruit: mangos, lycha, oranges, mandarins, guavas, passion fruit, star fruit, avocado, tamarind, etc.
2. A tall cold glass of milk.
3. Lindt dark chocolate
4. Dulce de leche flavour ice cream
5. Home made peanut butter with banana, apple or wheat crackers
Five songs I know the lyrics to: I’m really, really shitty with lyrics because I get too distracted by the music. I acutally usually make up lyrics instead of try and figure out the real ones.
1. Umbrella, (ella, ella), Rihanna
2. Hola Back Girl, Gwen Stefani
3. Para Tu Amor, Juanes
4. Oh Canada (I’m running out of songs I know all the words to)
5. Ray of Light, Madonna (phew, I thought I didn’t remember any more songs…)
Five things you would do if you were a millionaire:
1. Spoil my parents rotten and encourage early retirement.
2. Buy a lovely apartment in the heart of Buenos Aires (sigh)
3. Buy Matthew every toy and gadget known to exist
4. Set up or support an organization that helps the forgotten communities of Madagascar’s vanishing rain forests.
5. Go on a shopping spree with my best friend.
Five bad habits:
1. When I start complaining I get really whiny.
2. I usually have two or three glasses of water on the go and lying around the house.
3. I don’t brush my hair very much so my hair ends up everywhere.
4. I like to have deep conversations at bed time and keep Matthew up late.
5. I’m borderline OCD about keeping my feet and the bed clean.
Five things I like to do:
1. Write
2. Draw and paint
3. Be quietly in a forest exploring
4. Sit and stare at the ocean
5. Have tea and shoot the shit with loved ones
Five things I will never wear again:
1. My bangs perpendicular to my head (what was I thinking)
2. Clothes from high school (thanks for the wake up call, Matthew)
3. Cheap underwear
4. Sweaters my Mom made prior to 1995 (well, at least not out of the house)
5. My Ice Capades Visor that lights up (well, at least not to work!)
I don’t believe in tagging people so it’s up to you guys to share if you feel like it in the comments or on your own blog.
Hope everyone else’s week is going better than mine is. Buenos noches!

Angel, I don’t brush my hair very much, either, so you shouldn’t feel bad about that.
Sitting and watching the ocean is something I can do forever… wish I could make time to actually do it once in a while.

Peter, you don’t brush your hair, but what about your beard? :P
Don’t have time to sit and watch the ocean but, you live on an island. How far is the coast from Tokyo? And I figured a place like Tokyo would probably have a device simulating being at the beach that might be just as good…look into it.

I must have been tired yesterday cause I left out two questions. Here they are:
Five favourite toys:
1. teddy bear
2. lap top
3. blender
4. new stop watch for running
5. fancy piano keyboard
Five things I hate doing:
1. Moving (packing, unpacking, etc)
2. Cleaning the bathroom, especially clearing the shower drain of my hair
3. Be cold
4. Getting excessively bitten by insects (which is all of the time)
5. Killing creepy insects I can’t shoo outside

mmmm, I agree with your Five Hated Things too! except I don’t mind cleaning the bathroom. and I don’t get bitten by bugs all the time. but I would hate that too if it happened to me!
another thing I hate - creepy Toronto mammoth centipedes! YIKES!
